As soon as I walked into the studio, I could feel the energy. The vibe was amazing. I couldn’t stop laughing and joking with Neel and JP. For a moment, I forgot I was inside the real NRJ studio.

I took a group photo with Neel, JP, and the technical crew. Everyone was super friendly and fun to be around. It was like stepping into a live show.

Laughter Level: Extreme

JP and Neel had me laughing so hard. Their energy is just wild. At one point, JP was laughing so much that I couldn’t even breathe. They really know how to make every moment fun.

So… How Does It All Work? I Had Questions

And yes, I asked them everything.

How does NRJ reach the whole of Mauritius without internet?

It’s all done through FM frequencies. That’s how the sound travels across the island. NRJ broadcasts on:

90.8 FM – Centre

92.4 FM – Nord & Sud

94.9 FM – Est & Ouest

So wherever you are in Mauritius, you can tune in and catch the vibe. Just pick the right frequency and you’re in.

I was totally surprised when Neel suddenly turned to me and asked, “Do you want to go live on radio?” Neel was just fantastic. He made me feel totally at ease. So I said YES!
On air, I got to share a little about my visit, promote this blog, and talk about my passion for writing and storytelling. It was a moment I’ll never forget. I felt proud and confident, like anything was possible.

How do they choose which songs to play?

Neel explained they use a special software to manage all the songs and playlists. They look at trends, what people are listening to, and what gets people moving.

What about the horoscopes?

Léa reads them, and that’s actually her real voice — no filters or deep voices. They come from a tarot reader. Pretty cool.

Do songs that are hits in France always work here?

Not always. Some French songs that are huge in France don’t always connect in Mauritius. We have our own style here.

What kind of ads do they play?

NRJ keeps it clean. No politics, no violence, no alcohol, and no drugs. They do ads for cosmetics, food, fashion, tech, and other cool stuff that fits the audience. That’s why it feels fresh and safe to listen to.

How do they know who’s listening?

They don’t have live counters. Instead, they do surveys every few months to find out which areas and age groups are tuning in.

Behind the Scenes

The technical crew was working on some serious equipment. I saw machines and tools that looked like something out of a sci-fi movie. This is where the magic of clear sound and perfect music comes from.
